Gradings, kick combo’s and double-ankle sweeps all covered this evening in Haworth

Another successful evening was laid on by the Fusion Martial Arts Centre at Haworth this evening, with a triple threat of classes navigated by our members.

First up was our first ever mid-week grading for the “Kids MMA class”, with our younger ones being tested on their, fitness, focus, straight punches and push-kicks and grappling techniques. A very well done to those who were tested.

Next up was our “Mixed stand-up class” with our groups continuing to use the oblique kicks to stop our opponent in their tracks, as well as working on their flexibility with a triple kick drill. Plenty of padwork to finish.

Last but by no means least was our massively popular “Adults MMA class”, with the group working their way through six rounds of padwork, before looking at a couple of variations of the double ankle sweep (more on this on Sunday in the BJJ class).

A big well done to everyone who attended including Mark, Cat, Matthew, David, Matt, Dwight, Kira and Chris.

Leg-lock combinations and grading readiness the focus this Sunday at Haworth

It was a little quiet this Sunday morning at the Fusion Martial Arts Centre at Haworth, but that didn’t stop our members that turned up enjoying what was on offer from our instructors including how to combine leg-locks to finish our opponent.

First up was our pad session, giving people a chance to work off the weeks frustrations by hitting, kicking, kneeing and elbowing the pads.

Soon after we switched to our no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu hour, demonstrating how to combine straight-footlocks, heel-hooks and knee-bars as we look to tie our opponent in a knot.

Finally it was the turn of the kids, and with only one week to go until they are put through their paces during the first ever Sunday grading, we had the sharpening up on their basics.

A big well done to everyone who turned up including Dwight and Chris. See you next week…

Knee-split passes from the guard provides yet more breakthrough for Haworth MAC students

We were back to normal tonight at the Fusion Martial Arts Centre at Haworth following a busy weekend which included our Halloween Spooktacular fundraiser, putting on a trio of engaging classes for our members.

First up was the turn of the kids as we looked at controlling the mount position even when someone rolls like crazy, as well as putting them through their paces with our first sparring drills.

Next was the mixed stand-up class, blending boxing, kickboxing and muay-thai techniques and wrapping them up with an MMA ribbon. This week we introduced the back-fist for the first time, pairing it with an oblique kick and side kick to stop our opponent in their tracks before re-establishing distance.

Last up was the turn of the adults MMA class, with the group going through their paces on the pads before looking at passing the guard with the knee-split. The session was finished off with five rounds of rolling.

Big thanks to everyone who turned up including Cat, Michelle, Mark, David, Graham, Chris and Matt.

Mystical three sided shapes dominate the night sky over the Fusion MAC at Haworth

Another fun-filled evening was in store for those students attending the Fusion Martial Arts Centre at Haworth this Tuesday night as we smashed our way through an hour of mixed stand-up and an hour (and a bit) of adults mixed martial arts.

First up was the mixed stand-up as we had our usual mix of men and women in for the usual mix of striking styles, all of which are useful when it comes to MMA. First off we were looking at how to set up inside and outside leg kicks with punches to the head, before looking to stick our opponent in place with a jab-oblique kick combination before creating distance with a push kick.

Next was the turn of the adults MMA class and after a few rounds on the pads we quickly got down to the small matter of the triangle choke from the guard. First we looked at how to finish it before moving on to three set-up’s from the closed guard. This was all finished off with a large dollop of rolling.

Well done to all of those that attended including Adam, Cat, Matthew, Georgina, Michelle, David, Jonny and Owen. Please remember to reserve October 30th in your calenders for our two hour “Halloween Spooktacular” fundraiser (10am-12pm) in aid of a local children’s centre. Mixed stand-up and Adults MMA classes go down a storm in Haworth this Tuesday night

Another fun-filled night was had by all that attended the Fusion Martial Arts Centre at Haworth this gloomy Tuesday evening as we put our members through their paces during an hour of stand-up and an hour (and a bit) of MMA.

First up was the “Mixed stand-up” class, with our group looking to back their opponents up with a flurry of punches to get the guard high before slamming in a spinning back-kick to the body set up from an inside leg kick.

Next up was the “Adults MMA” class with the group going through their paces on the pads before switching their attention to two mounted Americana set-ups. The session ended with fifteen minutes of grappling sparring.

Well done to all of those that attended including Mark, Michelle, Georgina, Matt, Jonny, Chris and Owen.
