It was another night of intense classes at the Fusion Martial Arts Centre at Haworth this evening with our Kids MMA, Women’s Self Defence/Fitness and Adults MMA groups all taking center stage.
First up was the turn of the kids who this week not only practiced their mount controls, but also visited what to do when on someones back. Not long before the we had them playing their usual bunch of games and honing their striking skills.
Soon after was the turn of the Women’s Self Defence/Fitness group who continued their good work with the Bulgarian bag before moving on to various weapons defence techniques.
Lastly we had our Adults MMA group in who blasted their way through six rounds on the pads before looking at a no-gi variation of the scissor sweep. This was all capped off with the usual rolling.
A big well done to everyone who attended this evening including Cat, Graham, Matt and Matthew. Also a special mention to David, Chris, Andrea and Michelle who were in for private sessions earlier in the day.
Good job everyone!
Another successful evening was laid on by the Fusion Martial Arts Centre at Haworth this evening, with a triple threat of classes navigated by our members.
First up was our first ever mid-week grading for the “Kids MMA class”, with our younger ones being tested on their, fitness, focus, straight punches and push-kicks and grappling techniques. A very well done to those who were tested.
Next up was our “Mixed stand-up class” with our groups continuing to use the oblique kicks to stop our opponent in their tracks, as well as working on their flexibility with a triple kick drill. Plenty of padwork to finish.
Last but by no means least was our massively popular “Adults MMA class”, with the group working their way through six rounds of padwork, before looking at a couple of variations of the double ankle sweep (more on this on Sunday in the BJJ class).
A big well done to everyone who attended including Mark, Cat, Matthew, David, Matt, Dwight, Kira and Chris.
It was a little quiet this Sunday morning at the Fusion Martial Arts Centre at Haworth, but that didn’t stop our members that turned up enjoying what was on offer from our instructors including how to combine leg-locks to finish our opponent.
First up was our pad session, giving people a chance to work off the weeks frustrations by hitting, kicking, kneeing and elbowing the pads.
Soon after we switched to our no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu hour, demonstrating how to combine straight-footlocks, heel-hooks and knee-bars as we look to tie our opponent in a knot.
Finally it was the turn of the kids, and with only one week to go until they are put through their paces during the first ever Sunday grading, we had the sharpening up on their basics.
A big well done to everyone who turned up including Dwight and Chris. See you next week…
A frosty night in Haworth at the Fusion Martial Arts Centre didn’t stop our members from turning up and enjoying the classes that were on offer which included “Women’s Self Defence” and “Adults MMA”.
First up was the “Mini’s MMA” class and although our regulars were otherwise engaged we had a new comer trying out our “FIRST CLASS IS FREE” offer. Hopefully we’ll see her again in the future.
Next up was the turn of the ladies as they pushed through perhaps the hardest warm-up to date which included footwork on the ladder, a core station and the dreaded Bulgarian Bag. We went on to look at headlock escapes both standing on the ground as the lesson progressed.
Finally we had our “Adults MMA” class which saw our members push through six rounds of padwork before reviewing the trap and roll mount escapes which were taught a number of weeks ago. The session was capped off by a few rounds of rolling with a difference, as members were asked to close their eyes for the entirety of each round. Want to know why, sign up to find out…
Well done to everyone who turned up including Cat, Zelda, Leoni and Matt. Big well done to David, Chris, Andrea and Michelle who were also in today for private sessions.
We were back to normal tonight at the Fusion Martial Arts Centre at Haworth following a busy weekend which included our Halloween Spooktacular fundraiser, putting on a trio of engaging classes for our members.
First up was the turn of the kids as we looked at controlling the mount position even when someone rolls like crazy, as well as putting them through their paces with our first sparring drills.
Next was the mixed stand-up class, blending boxing, kickboxing and muay-thai techniques and wrapping them up with an MMA ribbon. This week we introduced the back-fist for the first time, pairing it with an oblique kick and side kick to stop our opponent in their tracks before re-establishing distance.
Last up was the turn of the adults MMA class, with the group going through their paces on the pads before looking at passing the guard with the knee-split. The session was finished off with five rounds of rolling.
Big thanks to everyone who turned up including Cat, Michelle, Mark, David, Graham, Chris and Matt.
Today the Fusion Martial Arts Centre at Haworth held it’s first annual Halloween Spooktacular fundraiser, with those involved looking to raise over £400 for a local childrens centre, Tree Tops. Read on to find out exactly what went down on the morning and whether we reached our goal…
The morning was kicked off with our regular Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class, as Dracula taught some “crab guard” techniques to a zombie, radioactive skeleton, Shaun of the Dead and Harley Quinn. The hour ticked by and soon the hoards of little zombies, witches, skeletons and such descended on the centre.
We started our little party off with half an hour of pad work, followed by a bunch of spooky themed games. Of course we had to play one of our favorite games, Zombies, before teaming them up with adults to give the morning a competitive edge, well done Team Zombie on the win.
Finally the raffle was a roaring success, with all prizes being drawn for in front of an excited audience. If you were unable to attend, you still might have won. A list of ticket numbers will be published shortly for unclaimed prizes. A big thanks to everyone who gave generously either directly to the fund, buying raffle tickets and especially to those donating prizes including The Black Bull, The Sun, Mill Hey Brew House, Mrs Beightons Sweet Shop and Mark Davis.
I’d like to thanks all my undead helpers on the day (Adam, Roxanne, Ewa, Chris and Matt), as well as my wife, mother-in-law and Adele. Last but by no means least I want to give a special mention to Michelle who was unable to attend on the morning but went over and above in terms of selling raffle tickets, approaching businesses for prizes and generally organising the day. A special lady.
So here’s where the fund stands at right now… (drum roll)… £549.
Thank-you everyone again and I’ll be sure to keep you all posted with regards to dropping off the check to the childrens centre and what they decide to spend the proceeds on.
It was business as usual at the Fusion Martial Arts Centre at Haworth this evening as our triple threat of lessons went down a storm with those that attended.
First up was the turn of the kids, giving our little ones their final opportunities to impress before their first gradings next week. Long-range punches and kicks were covered, as well as working further on their mount controls.
Next up was the Women’s Self Defence class, with the ladies working their way through half-an-hours fitness involving the Bulgarian bag, before moving on to dealing with people who look to grab hair during an attack.
Finally it was the MMA lessons for the adults, with padwork covered in the first half-an-hour before moving onto arm-locks from the guard and how they link into Tuesday’s triangle choke lesson. We capped it all off with a little rolling which everyone seemed to enjoy.
Well done to all of those that attended including Leoni, Cat, Owen, Adam and Chris. A shout of to David, Chris and Andrea who attended the MAC earlier in the day as well.

Another fun-filled evening was in store for those students attending the Fusion Martial Arts Centre at Haworth this Tuesday night as we smashed our way through an hour of mixed stand-up and an hour (and a bit) of adults mixed martial arts.
First up was the mixed stand-up as we had our usual mix of men and women in for the usual mix of striking styles, all of which are useful when it comes to MMA. First off we were looking at how to set up inside and outside leg kicks with punches to the head, before looking to stick our opponent in place with a jab-oblique kick combination before creating distance with a push kick.
Next was the turn of the adults MMA class and after a few rounds on the pads we quickly got down to the small matter of the triangle choke from the guard. First we looked at how to finish it before moving on to three set-up’s from the closed guard. This was all finished off with a large dollop of rolling.
Well done to all of those that attended including Adam, Cat, Matthew, Georgina, Michelle, David, Jonny and Owen. Please remember to reserve October 30th in your calenders for our two hour “Halloween Spooktacular” fundraiser (10am-12pm) in aid of a local children’s centre. Come on folks dig deep, after all its for a good cause!
A chilly Sunday morning at the Fusion Martial Arts Centre at Haworth was kicked off with the normal pad session, combining punches, kicks, knees, elbows and even the occasional clinch entry.
That was followed up with our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu hour, with our students looking at a nice little trick to counter the elbow escape, an impossible to defend arm-lock from the high mount and devastating shoulder pressure from side mount.
Last but by no means least was the turn of the kids who seem to be going from strength to strength with their gradings just around the corner. Their kicks and punches were on point this week, as was their grappling and focus. An excellent session.
Well done to all of those that attended including Adam, Roxanne and Ewa. Please remember to reserve October 30th in your calenders for our two hour “Halloween Spooktacular” fundraiser (10am-12pm) in aid of a local children’s centre. A link to our Just Giving page can be found here…
