Standing guard passing the focus of tonights Adults MMA class at The MAC at Haworth

We had a super busy Tuesday night at The MAC at Haworth with thirty members joining us over three classes, Kids MMA, Mixed Stand-up and Adults MMA.

We kicked it off with the kids and after warming them up and running through a number of basic striking combinations we looked at wrist releases from standing and the Americana arm-lock from the mount position. A points based rolling game finished the session.

The adults stand-up class begun with a brief shadow boxing warm-up before moving on to blocking kicks to both the legs and body in various ways. Then it was on to six rounds of padwork and around twelve sparring rounds.

Finally we had the MMA class for the big boys, with the group working their way through a grueling warm-up before visiting the pads. After that the focus was on standing guard passes, from how to pass to either side to a couple of easy entries to the knee split position. The night ended with a little rolling.

A big well done to everyone who attended the centre today including Natasha, Jessica, Paul, Ed, Mark, Richard, Chris, Roxanne, Michael, Matt, Graham, and Chris. A big shout out to our sponsors, The Fleece Inn as well.

The grappling hour was taken up by yet more submission escapes, this time focusing on two arm-triangle escapes and two escapes from the D’Arce choke. The hour finished with a number of five minute sparring rounds.

Push kick and Americana counters the focus of this Tuesday night at The MAC

It was another fun-filled Tuesday night at The MAC at Haworth this evening with our usual trio of classes on offer, Kids MMA, Mixed Stand-up and Adults MMA.

The little ones kicked off the night with a mixture of striking and grappling. To begin they worked on the next set of punching and kicking techniques before moving on to guard passes from the knees. The session finished with some points based rolling.

The adults striking class was next up with the group looking at effective ways to parry push kicks to the body. The rest of the hour was taken up by six rounds of padwork and stand-up sparring.

The adults MMA session began with a quick warm-up before quickly progressing to padwork. After that we continued our work on defending certain submissions, this time countering Americana’s from the mount and side mount positions.

A big well done to everyone who attended the centre today including Charlie, Jessica, Scott, Michael, Georgina, Paul, Ed, Chris, Matt and Graham. A big shout out to our sponsors, The Fleece Inn as well.

Split control from side mount included in tonight’s no-gi session at The MAC

We had a fun-filled and action packed session at The MAC this evening with an energetic Kids MMA session followed by a packed Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class.

The night began with the little ones as they began to sharpen up on their skills before their gradings in June. This was in the form of their basic striking routines (kicking and punching) as well as making sure they are competent in the first three grappling games.

The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu session saw a record number attend the centre and after a brief warm-up we got down to looking at guard and turtle prevention from split control, as well as how to sink the deadly D’arce choke.

A big well done to everyone who attended tonight including Tony, Ben, Alain, Heidi, Chris and Ryan. A big shout out to our sponsors, The Fleece Inn as well.

Guillotine choke defences revisited at The MAC at Haworth tonight during our MMA class

We had another action packed Tuesday night at The MAC at Haworth this evening, with our triple threat of Kids MMA, Mixed Stand-up and Adults MMA taking the lead.

First up was our little ones, with the group tonight looking at a super effective way of escaping the mount position by trapping one side of our opponents body and rolling that way. They also enjoyed our obstacle course padwork drill, as well as points based sparring game.

Next up was our stand-up class for adults, with the focus on the night being knees, including a flying one. We rattled off five rounds of technical sparring, six rounds of padwork before getting down to a little stand-up sparring.

Finally was the turn of the adults MMA class and after a few weeks working submissions from the guard we thought we’d transition to submission defence for a change, looking at how to counter the guillotine choke. Also part of the session was a few rounds on the pads and a chance for some Jiu-Jitsu sparring.

A big well done to everyone who attended the centre today including Jessica, Paul, Mark, Roxanne, Scott, Michael, Georgina, Ed, Chris, Matt and Graham.

Triangle basics (plus a few tricks) covered during tonight’s BJJ class at The MAC

We had another fun-filled Monday at The MAC at Haworth this evening with our usual blend of morning and evening classes taking the floor. For a run-down of what went down, continue to read on.

The morning was kick started with our Mixed Stand-up class, giving our members a chance to further hone their striking abilities through six rounds of padwork. The session culminated in twenty minutes of stand-up sparring, allowing those in attendance to put their skills into practice.

The evening began with our newest Kids MMA session, with the group looking at crazy octopus for the first time, as well as brushing up on their abilities on the pads. The lesson culminated in a little points based rolling and a couple of games of zombies.

The last session of the day was our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class, with the group requesting a look at the triangle choke. We visited the standard finish, as well as a new set-up and a couple of options if things didn’t go to plan. We also looked at a super reliable escape to the submission, turning the tables on our opponent.

A big well done to those who attended the centre today including Adam, Ewa, Roxanne, Mark, Andrea, Ben, Richard and Chris.

Omoplata’s all round during tonight’s MMA class at The MAC at Haworth

Another stellar night was had by all at The MAC at Haworth tonight with our trio of lessons taking the floor, Kids MMA, Mixed Stand-up and Adults MMA. To find out what went down, read on…

The little ones were up first and it was a very grappling heavy based class as we continued to piece together the puzzle from standing. Not only do our group know how to confident take an opponent down, but they can advance their position and finish their fight for good measure as well.

Next up was our adult striking class, with the group tonight focusing on switch-hitting for the first time. The best fighters in the world are elusive in their attacks, switching stance half-way through a combination to confuse their opponent and bring about openings, something we looked at with a couple of drills. The night ended with some nice sparring rounds.

Finally it was the Adults MMA class, with the group tonight looking at the omoplata as both a way to submit your opponent and more importantly sweep them. Also there was the inevitable links back to last weeks class, the triangle choke. The night ended with a few rounds of rolling.

A big well done to those who attended the centre including Charlie, Mark, Scott, Richard, Georgina, Michael, Paul, Roxanne, Chris, Ben, Matt and Graham.

Rear-naked choke defence the order of the day this morning at The MAC at Haworth

We had a blustery Wednesday morning at The MAC at Haworth today as we wizzed our way through two hours of classes, starting with our Mixed Stand-up session.

The morning started with a little Bulgarian bag warm-up followed by six rounds of blistering padwork, giving our members a chance to brush up on their punches, kicks, knees and elbows. The session climaxed in a few rounds of sparring, with everyone on the mat keeping it nice and relaxed (for a change 😉 ).

Next up was our grappling session with the group looking at some basic concepts of avoiding the rear-naked choke including a nice elbow tuck detail. The session ended with a little rolling, with more than one triangle choke caught during the fifteen minutes.

A big well done to everyone who attended the centre today including Adam, Ewa, Alex, Mark and Ryan.

Triangle chokes revisited at The MAC tonight during our Adults MMA class

We had a packed night of classes at The MAC at Haworth today with a trio of sessions taking the floor, Kids MMA, Mixed Stand-up and Adults MMA. To find out what went down, read on…

We kicked it off with our little ones, continuing to work on the correlation between mount/back mount controls and submissions from these positions. Also looked at in the session was inside and outside leg kicks, something new to the group.

Next up was our stand-up class for adults, with the group focusing more on technical sparring drills than padwork this week, as well as a little follow the leader drill. The session ended with a little light sparring.

The final session of the day was our massively popular MMA class, with the group working their way through a little warm-up before hitting pads for six rounds. The session’s focus followed on from last week as we looked at triangle chokes and various ways to lock it up.

A big well done to everyone who attended the centre today including Michael, Mark, Paul, Georgina, Chris, Ben, Matt, Graham, Ed and Paul.
