Outside arm attacks continue to build attack options from side control during this mornings grappling class

We had a busy Sunday morning at The MAC at Haworth this morning with our regular program of an hours pad session, grappling class and Kids MMA.

First up was the pads session, with our members having the chance to practice punching, kicking, kneeing and elbowing the focus pads before engaging in a little light sparring.

Next up was our grappling hour with the group looking at outside arm attacks, focusing very much on the straight arm-lock finishes to this new dimension. The session ended with fifteen minutes of grappling sparring.

The last session of the day was the kids and after a quick warm-up we got stuck into our obstacle course striking drills which included forwards and backwards rolls. The main focus of the session was five grappling games before finishing with the guard passing game and points based rolling.

A big well done to everyone who attended the centre today including Adam, Ewa, Mark, Ed, Chris and Georgina.

A big shout out to our sponsors, The Fleece Inn as well.

Headlock escapes and rear-naked chokes fill a grappling heavy night at The MAC

We had another action packed night of classes at The MAC at Haworth tonight, with our members flocking through the doors for Kids MMA, Grappling and Adults MMA.

First up was the kids and following on from earlier classes this week we focused on standing headlock escapes. Also during the hour we introduced a new focus game, allowing the children to engage in some good old fashioned bear-crawl races.

The grappling class was split in two, half focused on a standing technique while the other half on a series of ground based techniques. Standing we looked at the good old leg-hook takedown before headlock escapes took over on the ground.

The last class of the evening was the MMA class and after a brutal warm up and six rounds of padwork we looked at a couple of variations of the rear-naked choke. The night ended with a number of sparring rounds on the ground.

A big well done to everyone who attended the centre today including David, Chris, Andrea, Ed, Ben, Chris, Lucy, Georgina and Olly.

A big shout out to our sponsors, The Fleece Inn as well.

Arm-in guillotines revisited this morning during an hours grappling session at The MAC

It was another sweltering Sunday morning at The MAC at Haworth today, with our regular program of pads, grappling and kids MMA on the menu.

First up was the pads session, with the group working their way through an intense Bulgarian bag warm-up before a number of rounds on the pads. After that we put things into practice and rattled off five rounds of stand-up sparring.

The grappling hour was focused around the arm-in guillotine, first off looking at a different way to grip before allowing our opponent just enough rope that they hang themselves. We also looked at a nice set-up from half-guard before finishing with the devastating hand-gun choke.

Last up was the little ones, with this weeks focus being guard passing. Before that we put them through their paces on striking obstacle course. A couple of passing games ensued before finishing off with our points based sparring game.

A big well done to everyone who attended the centre today including Ben, Finn, Ed, Paul, Chris and Georgina.

A big shout out to our sponsors, The Fleece Inn as well.

Turtle control adds new insight to students during tonight’s Adults MMA class at The MAC

We had a sweaty and action packed night at The MAC at Haworth this evening, with the main trio of classes taking the floor, Kids MMA, Grappling and Adults MMA.

We kicked it off with the little ones, with the group working their way through the regular animal based warm-up before moving onto our striking obstacle course with a couple of differences. The main focus of the technical portion was arm-drags into a rear-takedown. The session ended with the always fun sock game.

The grappling class focused on two main subjects, entering the clinch from the standing position and arm-locks from the guard. One little addition was the transition from arm-lock to triangle if the arm disappears during the spin.

The MMA class was last up and got off to a flying start with a little padwork. After that was over we focused on a couple of ways to break down the turtle position, relying on tips or the threat of them to force an opening or two. The night ended with a little rolling (grappling sparring).

A big well done to everyone who attended the centre today including David, Roxanne, Tal Tan, Alex, Chris, Andrea, Charlie, Matt, Ryan, Paul Georgina, and Chris.

A big shout out to our sponsors, The Fleece Inn as well.

Crucial headlock escapes taught during tonight’s grappling class at The MAC

We had a busy Monday at The MAC at Haworth today, with our regular program of morning and evening classes keeping our members flocking through the doors.

Our day started with a little striking, with the group beginning the session with the Bulgarian bag warm-up. We got straight down to it with some light sparring, and even had time to combine a little grappling sparring to boot.

The evening started with one of our Kids MMA classes, with the little ones working their way through the regular animal based warm-up before testing their focus. The striking obstacle course was in full swing before we focused on mount escapes during the technical portion.

Next up was our evening grappling class, with the group looking at double leg takedowns, depending on our opponents behavior. We then transitioned onto looking at primary headlock escapes on the ground, a critical maneuver if you find yourself stuck on the bottom.

A big well done to everyone who attended the centre today including Adam, Ewa, Roxanne, Tony, Andrea, Michelle, Roxanne, Ryan, Paul, Ben and Chris.

A big shout out to our sponsors, The Fleece Inn as well.

D’Arce choke counters completes the circle during tonight’s MMA class at The MAC

We had another busy Thursday at The MAC at Haworth today, with a packed morning of private sessions and a full on evening of classes.

The evening program started with the Kids MMA class, with the group working their way through the regular warm up and striking obstacle course. The technical portion of the class focused on takedowns, ducking under the punch of an aggressive opponent before landing a double leg.

The grappling class for the adults focused on the body-fold takedown from the clinch position before putting our own spin on how to counter a head-locking opponent who we’re mounted on. A little rolling ended the session.

The last class of the night was the Adults MMA class and after a little bear crawling to warm-up we transitioned onto the focus mits for some padwork. The technical portion of the class was all about countering the D’Arce choke, a submission we looked at in detail last Thursday. The night ended with some rolling.

A big well done to everyone who attended the centre today including David, Adam, Alex, Chris, Andrea, Ben, Paul, Ed, Lucy, Mark, Frank, Matt and Olly.

A big shout out to our sponsors, The Fleece Inn as well.

A very arm-locked themed night at The MAC during a couple of hours of grappling

We had a busy and fun-filled morning and evening at The MAC at Haworth today with the normal schedule of classes keeping our students flooding through the door.

The morning’s focus was stand-up, with the group working their way through a number of rounds on the Bulgarian bag and battle rope before getting down to some extensive padwork. The hour concluded with some light (and heavy) sparring.

The evening began with our Kids MMA class, with the group’s focus being on mount escapes. Earlier in the hour they worked their way through padwork and concluded with the always fun “sock game”.

The grappling was spread over two hours, with the entire group chipping in for a second hour. The first hour focused on the standing arm-lock and elbow escapes from the mount, and the second on standing guillotines and arm-locks from the mount. The session finished with a little rolling (grappling sparring).

A big well done to everyone who attended the centre today including Adam, Roxanne, Ewa, Tony, Andrea, Ryan, Ben, Chris and Alain.

A big shout out to our sponsors, The Fleece Inn as well.

Street-fight sparring and triangle chokes no the menu at The MAC this Monday

We had a sweltering Monday at The MAC at Haworth today with our regular program of morning and evening classes going on despite the massive heat.

The morning session began with the regular Bulgarian bag warm-up before switching it up with a little light rolling (grappling sparring). Taking things on a stage further we moved on to “street-fight sparring”, allowing for unexpected strikes from the top and bottom positions to be thrown as we “keep it real”.

The evening Kids MMA class began with the animal based warm-up before taking them on the pads to improve their basic knowledge of striking. The focus then changed to grappling and our new guard passing drill before mixing it in with the game the group knows well.

The last class of the day was our grappling class and after looking at how to deal with a super aggressive opponent on the feet, we looked at a couple of ways to apply the triangle choke including a driving opponent. The session finished with a little light rolling.

A big well done to everyone who attended the centre today including Adam, Roxanne, Mark, Ewa, Ryan, Ben and Chris.

A big shout out to our sponsors, The Fleece Inn as well.

Half-guard sweeps/submissions revisited during this morning’s grappling class at The MAC

It was a busy, hot and sweaty morning at The MAC at Haworth today with our usual mix of pads, grappling and Kids MMA on the menu.

First up was our hour pad session, a chance for members to sharpen their striking skills as they punch, kick, knee and elbow the focus pads. The final fifteen minutes was reserved for sparring as they put everything into practice.

Next was our weekend grappling class and we took the chance to look at a scenario from the bottom of half guard. Once gaining lockdown and the underhooks we explored creating a favorable angle before executing the electric chair sweep/submission.

The last class of the morning was our massively popular Kids MMA class and after a brief warm-up and a little padwork we put them through their paces with our new guard passing game. The technical portion of the class looked at a mount escape, rolling our opponent off of us before finishing with a few fun games.

A big well done to everyone who attended the centre today including Adam, Ewa, Roxanne, Paul, Ebun, Michelle, Ryan and Paul.

A big shout out to our sponsors, The Fleece Inn as well.

Practically a full house for grappling and MMA tonight at The MAC at Haworth

We had a busy Thursday night at The MAC at Haworth this evening with our trio of classes bringing almost a record number of people through our doors over a three and a half hour period.

The Kids MMA class kicked off the night in style with the group brushing up on their padwork and self defence techniques, the latter in the form of wrist releases and standing in base. We added to the mix engaging our opponent in the clinch, a powerful weapon which will come into it’s own in future weeks.

The grappling class was next up and the high turn-out was in for a treat as we looked at guillotine chokes from standing, as well as straight arm-locks from the mount. The busy class was treated to a little light rolling to end, with a few of the MMA guys joining in.

The MMA class swung into action at 7.30pm with a shorter than normal warm up before getting straight into our wrestling drill, a big focus of things this week. The technical portion of the class focused on mount escapes, this week looking to trap the arm and leg on one side before rolling them.

A big well done to everyone who attended the centre today including David, Adam, Chris, Michelle, Paul, Ed, Georgina, Heidi, Paul, Richard, Matt, Graham, Chris, Olly, Joe and Ben.

A big shout out to our sponsors, The Fleece Inn as well.
